The Coin of the Military Brat recognizes the unique personal strengths of Military Brats and honors them for the great sacrifices they make by sharing their parents with the nation they have chosen to serve. These are sacrifices that Brats do not make by choice, but ones they accept with courage, love and dignity. The Coin of the Military Brat was developed to help commanders as well as soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines and coast guardsmen, at all levels, recognize and honor their family members for the strength and support they provide. It makes a priceless gift for presentation at hails & farewells, promotions, retirements or any other ceremony at which family members may be honored.

The video below was produced by a university student, Chelsie Johnson who wanted to give recognition to our youngest soldiers….

Many military support charities are continuing to raise money for scholarships for the children of KIAs and 100% disabled veterans and they apparently do not know or realize that the children and the surviving parent of KIAs and the children and spouse of 100% disabled veterans are eligible for full GI Bill benefits and there is no better scholarship program any where in the world.

Tom Cormier grew up on a New England farm with his 9 siblings. He was the first to leave home and served with the US Marines in the Vietnam War. Returning home he married his high school sweetheart, Christine, and has been married nearly 40 years with two grown sons, Justin and Tyler.

In 1990 Tom founded LTA Media, an international direct marketing firm specializing in life enhancement products. ‘LTA’ stands for ‘Let’s Talk America’, a radio talk show Tom created and hosted which aired on over 600 stations in the United States and Canada during the 1990’s.

In 2000, looking to make a bigger difference, he helped restore a vintage mountain town, Telliquah, in the Great Smoky Mountains. It was during this time that he began collecting and preserving stories of the Cherokee and Appalachian communities.

It quickly became apparent that this rich heritage was disappearing much faster than he could capture it. He began looking for ways to engage communities, groups, cultures and families to become more active in preserving their heritage.

Together, Tom and the Founder of Project StoryKeeper, Dennis Stack became a force on the national heritage scene. They created the “TreasuryOfHeritage.com“, an online archive and gathering place where stories can be stored and shared by families and communities in multi-media.

The Treasury is a no fancy frills website. It’s purpose is to provide a well organized and safe place on the web to back up memories that can never be replaced and to offer the social media technology to share them.

With the nation’s most efficient story-collection process and an online archive to preserve and share the rich content, it was time to launch, ‘The Great Heritage Campaign’, a worldwide movement to make story-preservation a priority.

The treasury has a place for Military Groups where they can use the treasury to preserve and share their service experiences. The Treasury provides a great place to form groups, forums, upload photos, videos and all that is needed to tell the stories of veterans their families want to know.We would love for you to become part of our community and movement.

Tom will be joining Dennis Stack and the Veterans Day Telethon team LIVE on November 6th to tell us more about “The Great Heritage Campaign”.
In fact, he knew very little about his parents, which caused him to rethink his priorities.

After 19 years starting as a financial consultant with EF Hutton and finishing as a Senior Vice President and Branch Manager for UBS/PaineWebber, he discovered that his clients did a great job with preserving their valuables but not so well at preserving their values. So, he created a ‘do-it-yourself’ Family StoryKeeper Kit as a 2001 Christmas gift for his clients. The response was overwhelming. In 2003 Dennis left his upper 6-figure career and made preserving family heritage his life passion.

Since then he has refined and improved his unique story-collection process by training thousands of volunteers in over 800 hospices, senior centers and VA hospitals. His ‘Family StoryKeeper Course’ is considered the industry gold standard for conducting intuitive interviews and is now being taught in 3 universities.

In early 2003 he founded Project StoryKeeper in an effort to work with cultural groups and communities to provide awareness, training and tools to record their stories.

Today, Dennis acts as an Ambassador to promote Project StoryKeeper’s mission of preserving the past, enriching the present and inspiring the future for all families and communities. It is important to Project StoryKeeper that we make sure we can all learn, grow and experience the cherished stories of our families’, communities’ and nations’ heroes.

Project StoryKeeper is a founding partner of the Veterans History Project of the Library of Congress American Folklife Center whose purpose is to collect and preserve at the Library of Congress the firsthand remembrances of U.S. wartime veterans. The Veterans History Project Launches through a partnership between Project Storykeeper and The United States’ Library of Congress. No longer will our service men and women’s stories be lost. Now, not only will they be storied and archived, but they will be accessible to the world through the Veterans History Project web portal.

On November 6th, Dennis will be joining us LIVE on the Veterans Day Telethon to share more about this project.

Project StoryKeeper relies on well-trained people to collect stories and connect families.

BECOME A STORYKEEPER!

Charitable donations for Project StoryKeeper go directly towards the mission of training and supporting an army of certified StoryKeepers to collect stories and connect families.

He was born at the Presidio of San Francisco, and lived on Army and Air Force bases around California, Texas, and Japan. Marc will be sharing his story LIVE on our Veterans Day Telethon on Nov 6th.

Marc Curtis is the President of US Plan B, Inc., a television production company in Los Angeles that specializes in Public Relations video for the travel industry. His experience in television goes back over three decades as both a Freelance Video Photo Journalist and manager of news organizations. He was also Owner and General Manager of Southern California News Service from 1982 to 1994. His company was established as an independent news service covering breaking news and special interest stories throughout the United States. The company also serviced daily feeds and news gathering or downlinking by satellite transmission for various broadcast and non-broadcast news agencies. From 1985 until a merger with Tribune Broadcasting in 1990, he was West Coast Bureau Manager for the Hollywood, California office of the Independent News Network. Here he managed an office staff and field crews, turning out dozens of news stories as well as shooting raw footage that was syndicated to news agencies around the world. Marc was the chief cameraman for the PBS Front-line series documentary produced by Robert Drew titled For Auction–An American Hero. The program examined the auctioning of American family farms from the viewpoint of the auctioneer and won the DuPont-Columbia Award for Best Independent Documentary of 1986.

In 1997, Marc created the Military Brats Registry as an Internet resource for people who grew up in a military household. The web site rapidly became the central location for “lost brats” to find each other. The site is made possible by advertisers and sales of relevant items in the Military Brats Store. Marc has been successful in locating many of the classmates he has searched for from his Fourth Grade class in 1960-61 at Ft. Bliss, Texas. His passion for helping others locate the friends they have wondered about has resulted in the phenomenal success of the Military Brats Registry, with tens of thousands of registered members and reunions between them taking place daily.

Currently Marc “commutes” between Los Angeles and China every few months and is cooperating with business and government officials to produce cultural programs to promote a better understanding between the people of the USA and China.

April is Month of the Military Child! This special celebration is a legacy of former Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger – established to underscore the important role children play in the Armed Forces community.

To underscore the important role military children play in the armed forces community, the Department of Defense is also offering a program to help military families find in-home caregivers. All Army, Marines, Navy and Air Force families (active, reserve and national guard) are eligible for memberships to Sittercity, which are fully paid by the Department of Defense.

Sittercity’s Corporate Program for military families provides instant access to over a million caregivers nationwide. Caregiver profiles include background checks, references, reviews, pictures and much more. Sittercity’s proprietary matching technology helps families hand-select the perfect caregiver for their family. In addition, service members and their families are able to connect with Military certified care-providers on Sittercity including Child Development Homes (CDH) and Family Child Care (FCC) as well as caregivers who are military subsidized and authorized access to military installations. The Sittercity program can also help service members who may not need childcare, but are looking for other types of care including elder care providers, daily dog walkers, pet sitters, tutors and even house sitters.

Take advantage of these free memberships by visiting SitterCity.
