Governmental Red Tape & Stall Tactics?

In order to share with all of you the most current information about programs available to Veterans and their families, I spend a lot of time reading through new articles and blogs.  Today’s research really has me on my soap box…

Aid and Attendance Benefit

The Aid & Attendance Benefit is a special pension benefit that may be available to veterans and their surviving spouses who served our country during a period of war.  It is a non-service-related disability benefit, which means that disability does not have to be a result of military service.

The purpose of this benefit is to assist with the costs of long-term care. Often, this benefit helps keep veterans or their surviving spouses out of a nursing home because the benefit pays for independent-living and assisted-living communities, as well as in-home care. It is also helpful for veterans living independently who believe that they are unable to afford a high-quality assisted-living facility, and it can also be life-changing to veterans and their spouses who are living in a home and are struggling to keep up with payments.

Sounds like a great benefit, right?

Once eligibility is determined, it can take eight to 12 months for the VA to approve the application.  And if that is not outrageous in itself….”If you apply for the benefit and are turned down due to an error in the application, you have to wait a year to reapply.

If we can deploy an aircraft carrier with supplies and the 5000 men & women in 72 hours…Why does it take this long to process an application?
